MY STONE MOUNTAIN HOME

Music and lyrics by Kate Peters Sturgill

There’s a dear old home nestled in the heart of the hills

Where the trailing arbutus grows

Where the red rhododendrons bloom on the cliff

It is there I am longing to go

Sweet memories return of my childhood and youth

When I used to wander there

Happy hours I’d spend by the old mill stream

With never a sorrow or care

Chorus:

I’m longing for my dear old home

That old home in Stone Mountain far away

Where at twilight you can hear the whippoorwills call

And the birds sweetly sing all the day

Where the catawba tree blooms by the side of the path

In that dear old familiar spot

Though many years have passed away

It has never been forgot

Where the peep owl calls warning to approaching storm

And you hear the humming of bees

Where the cattle and sheep graze on the hill

That is home sweet home to me

Chorus:

I’m longing for my dear old home

That old home in Stone Mountain far away

Where at twilight you can hear the whippoorwills call

And the birds sweetly sing all the day
